Sky full of Air
[He was taken down with the piece of machinery. Down into the depths of the ocean, kicking and fighting to get free. It took him awhile to loosen the chain that was wrapped around his feet, but eventually he got it loose and he was able to free himself from the vice grip of the iron. With lungs screaming, he put all the energy he had left in him, into heavy strokes of his arms and legs. Eventually making his way to the surface. He broke the surface with a gasp, and once again the feather light substance flowed down into lungs again. On the surface a few feet away Jacobson sat rocking back and forth on a small dingy, “Samson! Are you alright?”. “Yeh i'll be alright, just let me catch my breath...”. The ocean breeze swept strongly through salty and warm, and Sam could not remember ever being as graceful as he was now, to live above the surface of the blue planet.] - A fan-fiction from some miscellaneous action movie
Air, in the most literate of thoughts, an invisible translucent near indistinguishable thing. It exists always
out of sight, and in a way substantially out of mind, but ironically is a substance that is inherently
inseparable from us. It exists all around us here on the surface of the earth, over the land, in the forests
, over the oceans, lakes, and rivers. It is everywhere, colorless and invisibly, its presence is near
inescapable. And yet while it remains a elemental ghost, accompanying us invisibly in all places, Air is
actual matter. Just like the rocks, and the waters, and the trees and flower. Just like us human beings
of natural tissue and blood, and veins, and muscle and skin. Air is an actual form of matter.

There are only 4 different fundamental forms of matter that we know of the exist in our world, possibly the
entire Universe. One of those forms is Gas. Air is made up of Gas, and two or more gases sharing the
same space is qualified to be referred to as Air. Air a relatively young word, was defined near the end
of the 18nth century when the greek word A-er, was applied in the scientific world to meaning the total
culmination of several gases, Nitrogen, Oxygen, hydrogen, & carbon dioxide. The term of a mixture of
gases eventually broadened to cover any mixture of gaseous elements on earth. The word Air,
became what we refer to as the gaseous material of the sky, the wind, and even the human breath.

became what we refer to as the gaseous material of the sky, the wind, and even the human breath.
The composition of the gases that make up air are composed in three different molecular fashions. A single
atom gas(noble Gases), Elemental molecules made up of the same type of atom(Non-noble Gases), and
simple compound molecules made from a variety of elements in gas form(Carbon dioxide). All of these
types of elemental molecules are the quadrillions of particulates that form the matter that we know of as
Gas, or in a assimilated bulk “Air”.

Take a second to put the mental image together. In science class they told us that all matter is made up of
atoms, that linked together to form molecules, that would link together with other molecules to form particles.
These particles of matter, 300,000 in number to form something microscopic, and in the millions for it to
reach the barely macroscopic point(visible to the naked eye as an infinitesimally

These particles of matter, 300,000 in number to form something microscopic, and in the millions for it to
reach the barely macroscopic point(visible to the naked eye as an infinitesimally
small speck),is the molecular makeup of the physical structure of every form of matter. The mineral rocks of
the ground are made up of particulates, the liquid water of ocean is made of particulates, and finally air is a
form of matter made from untold numbers of particles.
the ground are made up of particulates, the liquid water of ocean is made of particulates, and finally air is a
form of matter made from untold numbers of particles.
In water, the particles that make up the liquid are loosely, but closely bonded. In a solid, molecules are
solidly bonded, packed tight into rigid structured and geometrically organized layers. But on the molecular
level, with gas, particles are separate entities and there is typically vast separation from molecule to
molecule… at least when compared to the structure of liquids or solids. Basically the composition of gas
looks like what a box of cheerios might look like, if spilled inside the international space station. They fly
around randomly, opposed to gravity because of their great lack of weight and molecular density, knocking
into each other constantly.

And as the third form of matter, any given amount of gas is made up of trillions of individual gas atoms,
molecules, and particles. When you boil water over the stove, the water vapor that is rising into the air and
being absorbed into the air(as an actual visible gas), that vapory smoke that you see is actually composed
of hundreds of thousands of newly born gas molecules. When you look out into open space of your cozy
home, the molecular makeup up of the air, is an invisible ocean of nitrogen, oxygen, helium, and various
other gases. When walk outdoors and look up into the sky, the amount of actual physical molecular matter
that there is… well you can imagine, pretty tremendous.

blows, an entire galaxy of molecules is blown across your face. Every time you walk into the great doors,
sitting right there on top the solid ground, there is an ocean of particulates that extends hundreds of miles
upwards all swaying and moving together, interacting with everything on earth. This is air, the second ocean
of the earth, and the third and lightest form of matter known to scientists today.
???Did you know???
That air, just like us, is only allowed to exist here on earth because of the planets gravitational
pull? If it wasn't for earth's gravity and the magnetic field produced by the burning metals in the earth's core,
all gas on earth would float off into space, never to be seen or breathed ever again. Actually there is a layer
of earth's Air that is constantly decaying in the outer limits of earth's gravitational pull.

The Atmosphere
What is referred to when describing the layers of gasses held in by gravity that surrounds the surface
of the planet. The miracle that remains and rain's above our heads, not only does this bulky layer of
gases provide the entire planet with the right amount of essential oxygen(carbon dioxide for plants)
animals need to survive, but also absorbs a massive amount of heat radiation from the sun, incinerates
Meteoroids from space, allows weather to exist and occur all around the globe, and reduces
temperature extremes between day and night. Hows about that for multitasking!?
There are 5 distinguishable layers of the atmosphere that compose basically the entirety of the earth's
Gases that a'rnt in the ground, or in our lungs. Those layers are; The Troposphere, The Stratosphere,
The Mesosphere, The Thermosphere, and The Exosphere. Together these layers form the structure of
the gas of the Sky known as the Atmosphere.

The Troposphere - Look up! The first 12 kilometers of sky, belongs to the layer of air referred to as
the Troposphere! That means 10 miles above you is pure clean, breathable air. Would you like a villa
in the heights? Be apart of the ten-mile-high-club? Whenever they figure out how to make skyscrapers
go that high, it might be possible for you! The troposphere takes up 80% of all gaseous mass on earth,
is the densest layer of the atmosphere, and is the only layer inhabited by water vapor & weather.
Above the troposphere the air is sparse, cold, and dry(If you have ever climbed up a very tall mountain,
you may have an idea of what the air is like above the troposphere). This layer extends from Earth's
surface to an average height of about 8.7 miles. In the tropics the average height of the troposphere is
11.6 miles, 3,000 feet shorter in the midlatitudes of earth, and only 3.2 miles in the polar regions during
the winter. The word troposphere is derived from the Greek tropos (meaning "turn toward") and sphere
(as in the Earth), reflecting the fact that rotational turbulence is created in the troposphere by airs
frictional interaction with the surface of the earth. Because of this frictional interaction the troposphere
is in a constant state movement.

Weather of the Sky
The Troposphere is the only layer of the Earth’s Atmosphere that has weather, being as it is the only
layer that contains water vapor to give it the physiological diversity needed. The effect of heat from
the Sun on bodies of water, land of the earth, and gas and water vapor of the Air, is the sole reason
that we have weather on earth as we do. Weather is made by air pressure, temperature and moisture
differences between one place and another. These differences can occur according to how much sunlight
a place on earth might get, geographical qualities of the land, and surrounding qualities of the earth and air.

Whenever we look up, that translucent ocean above us is in one form or another completely made of gas.
The Sunshine filled air, the wild Winds, the clouds, all these things are forms of gas. They sky is a
playground of micro and macromolecular physics that is bouncing back, bouncing forth, inflating and
pushing outwards, deflating and rushing in to fill gaps, and bumping into each other to make even more
movement. Every day, the elemental olympics are going on right above our heads in the troposphere.

With Gas, Air pressure decreases with temperature. Air molecules when heated begin to move faster, and
the distance between separate atoms and molecules becomes greater, making the substance less dense.
Cool air conversely, while molecules remain free agents, are more condensed in lower temperature and
have less distance between separate molecules. Because gas is a fluid substance, and like water, will
always seek to find equilibrium in any given container that it is in, when Air is heated(usually by heat from
the sun, gas density becomes less dense, and air that is even marginally cooler will rush in to fill the gaps.
This creates the Phenomena known as Wind, a key factor in the weather of the troposphere.
As a whole, the weather on Earth has been divided the into three different weather patterns, or

As a whole, the weather on Earth has been divided the into three different weather patterns, or
weather cells(circuits). These are the tropically located Hadley cell, the mid latitude Ferrel cell, and
polar regions polar cell, to describe energy flow and global atmospheric circulation. Its fundamental
principle is that of balance and the result is a circulation of the troposphere that transports warm air
poleward from the tropics and cold air equator-ward from the poles. The effect of the three cells is the
tendency to even out the heat and moisture in the Earth's atmosphere around the planet.

The air pressure of the troposphere is at its maximum at sea level, and decreases the higher you go.
Air pressure is defined by how much air is stacked on top of it, the more air, the more weight, the less
air the less weight.

The Stratosphere - Contains the Ozone layer, is the most stable part of the atmosphere 50 km above
the earth's surface. It is called the stratosphere because it is stratified in temperature and density, with
alternating cool and cooler layers close to the earth, and warm and warmer layers father up. The
Stratosphere is also he layer of atmosphere that contains the ozone layer. A type of gas that exists
on earth that has a high functioning chemical property of heat absorption, Ozone or O3, is produced
by oxygen molecules that have been broken down in the stratosphere by light photons from the sun.
This Ozone(O3) populates almost 10% of the gasses of the upper Stratosphere, and absorbs 97% of
the UV Solar radiation that comes to earth from the Sun. Talk about some miraculous sunblock! 30
miles up in the sky, in the Stratosphere, there is an invisible shield that makes life here on earth
possible. Aren't we lucky? ;]

The Mesosphere - The coldest place on earth at 120 degrees fahrenheit the mesosphere sits at 80 km
above the earths surface. It is the least understood layer of the atmosphere due to its difficult position in the earth gravitational field. There are no forms of aircraft that can make it into the mesosphere and only certain types of balloons, can make it to the lowest part of it. Specialized rockets are the primary form of getting data about the status of this layer of the earth's atmosphere, but even those can only hope to record a few minutes of material before falling back to the earth.

We do know however that it is the mesosphere that protects planet earth from projectiles. The air density here is less dense than the atmosphere below it, but great enough so that meteors that pass into earths atmosphere, are burned up by the fictional heat of moving through the medium of the mesosphere. Some 25 million meteoroids and micrometeoroids enter the earth's mesosphere per day! It is the canopy of gas in the sapphire sky above our heads that we can thank for getting rid of them.
The Thermosphere - Cloudless, with 0 water vapor, size fluctuates in accordance with atmospheric
temperature 100 km. Its distinction as a part of our atmosphere is highlighted by the qualities that it’s
distances lie within the earth's magnetic field and gravitational pull and still has a diluted amount of
gas particles in it. Mostly it is considered to be apart of outer space.

The Exosphere - Is the outermost layer of the distinctions of the atmosphere. At 6,200 miles above
the surface of earth, this is where air atoms and molecules are knocking into each at the farthest
reaches of the earth's gravitational pull. With the air circulating, and gas particles often knocking
around, some of the particles are sent out of the gravity, allow molecules to escape out into space.
This is where satellites make their orbits. Air is either at it’s thinnest. Or nonexistent.

Rayleigh Scattering: The reason the sky is Blue!____________________________________
particles in the sky/atmosphere. As the light travels in space, photon beams are traveling through a
vacuum, so there is really nothing to affect the beams flight. But when beams of light hit the Air of the
earth's atmosphere(a real type of matter), the light that was previously travelling through nothing, is
now traveling through trillions of different types of gas particles(The atmosphere). The photon beams
are slightly affected by traveling through the medium of air, parts of the stream of pure light photons
are knocked astray by the gas particles.
So where a beam of pure white light is what is shot into the earth's atmosphere, running through the
gas particles, knock parts of the wavelength elsewhere, causing the pure white light to break off
occasionally into blue, green, red, purple… all the colors of the rainbow, which are all components of
pure white light.
gas particles, knock parts of the wavelength elsewhere, causing the pure white light to break off
occasionally into blue, green, red, purple… all the colors of the rainbow, which are all components of
pure white light.
Because longer wavelength light scatters more easily than shorter wavelength light, more longer
wavelengths of the photon beam are dispersed into the atmosphere. Blue is the color with longest
wavelength. Because of this, out of the colors that compose pure white light, Long wavelengths of
light(Colored Blue) are the wavelengths that end up being scattered the most, on the photons flight
through the earth's gas atmosphere. So many blue wavelengths are scattered that the sky is colored
blue with the reminiscent stray wavelengths.

Wavelength scattering is also the reason that sunrises and sunsets are colored in warm hues of yellow, orange, and red. At the time of sunrise and sunset in any given area on earth, the distance that the light beams have to travel through the earth's atmosphere is at its greatest distance(Light comes in diagonally, instead of straight on). Because there is more air to travel through a good amount of short wavelength parts of light are thrown out into the air, creating a field of orange/red.
Interesting enough it's actually the Light Ray’s that are blue, yellow, orange, and red, not the air. The Gas molecules of the Air of the sky are still translucent. Something you can
observe by looking at Air in enclosed spaces, like your house, where mass amounts of solar photons
arnt blasting through the gaseous material of your household, and the air house appears translucent.

If seen from space, the sun is actually white in color, and the space around it is pitch black. The earth's atmosphere is what is responsible for the colors of the sky.
Wind
What is wind? Where does it come from? How does it work? A winged phantom with a mind of it's own,
it blows invisibly across us almost so frequently, that we'd consider it odd to be outside and not feel its
presence. But do most of us even know what it is? Is the Air just deciding to move in this way strongly
in this direction, on its own? Is there an army of giant invisible faces in the sky that like to float around
and blow on people? If so then why? As convincing as bobbleheads floating around blowing air at
people at their own digression sounds, thats not actually how wind works.

Wind is the regular flow of Air(gasses) on earth from one location to another. It is caused by the rising
of hot air heated by the sun and falling of cool air. Basically the entire wind system of earth, is the
process of gas distributing, displacing, and redistributing its matter within it's own volume.
This is how it works.
When the temperature of a gas rises, the distance between its molecular bonds expand making the
substance both lighter, and less dense. Being lighter means that gravity has less of a hold on the
already "Airborn" Air, and because of this, hotter air will rise. In the great outdoors, as hot air rises it
creates gaseously depleted low pressure air beneath it[Gas is a fluid substance, like the water of the
ocean it's many molecules act as one body to fill it's single container]. When a low pressure area opens up
in the wake of lighter gas, then heavier gas will spill into that area to fill in the gaps. The movements of
these redistributions of air create air currents commonly referred to as wind.
So whenever you feel a gust of invisible bobblehead breath across your face, that current of invisible
air, is actually a river of gas molecules that is racing toward an open space in the gaseous body of
the atmosphere. These rivers can flow from the span of only a couple of meters, to the distance of
several thousand kilometers, moving at speeds ranging from a gentle breeze, to a overpowering gusto.
And these rivers of gas running from one place to another is by no means random.
The dynamics of temperature driven air-pressure change, and the wind that results for air pressure
stabilization, goes on all over the globe every minute of every day, all year as a solar powered
symphony of gas movement. Wind is an inseparable part of the Air our world and the natural physics that
conduct its form of matter in the universe.
The differential heating between the warm low pressure
air of the equator, the high pressure cold climate of the earth's poles, and the high pressure of the
sub-tropical climates in between the two, create the large scale winds that systematically circulate air
around the globe. These large scale winds are also known as Planetary Winds, and have been moving
in the same directions and patterns across the earths surface for thousands of years. Large distance
Planetary Winds include...
The Trade winds which run east to west from the warm, high moisture, high pressure upper and lower
subtropics down into the low pressure warm air of the equator.
The Westerly winds which run west to east at an angle, because of the Carioles Effect(a term used
to describe the effects the force of the rotation of the planet has on weather), towards the cold
low pressure area of the top north pole, and bottom south pole.

These three wind patterns create a gaseous conveyer belt that covers the entire globe. Sailors used
knowledge of these winds in the long gone days of the past, just as Airplane Pilots use it today to
navigate themselves through air travel. They are the typical messengers of different temperatures of air. If your area of living has ever been hit by a cold front, it was most likely one of these wind systems that brought it to you.
But in between these global winds, there are plenty of other wind systems are created from solar and
geographical factors. Periodic winds are wind systems that change direction periodically from day to
day or season to season.

Monsoons are Seasonal Periodic winds and refer to wind systems that have a pronounced seasonal reversal
of direction. Summer monsoons are characterized by volatile weather with spells of drought and heavy
rainfall. Winter monsoons involve a gentle drift of Air in a altered direction. Basically monsoon are
nature's way of coughing back up the amounts of high temperature they receive at certain points in
the year.

A Sea Breeze is a strong constant cool breeze that flows from sea to land that develops during the daytime…
The ever-famous sea breeze, ocean wind, or breadth of the sea is caused by the generally cooler air
over the water flowing into the low pressure, low moisture hot air over the heated solid ground of the
land. A warm low moisture dry breeze flowing from land to sea occurs at night as a result of air
pressure stabilization. When the sun sets, land mass radiates heat back into the atmosphere
quicker than bodies of water do. Heated air from land creates high air pressure, while the sea retains
less heat and a low air pressure, the air seeks to balance its volume and pressure and the air over
land drifts into the low pressure zone over sea. This why walks on the beach around sunset or dusk
usually feature warm winds that are blowing from land into the sea.

A Mountain Valley breeze
Is a diurnal wind which occurs in mountainous regions. During the day the
slopes of the mountains are heated up and cool air from the valley below climbs up to the low air
pressure. At night the action is reversed and cool air slides down the mountain and into the valley. Air
going from the valley up to the mountain is called the valley breeze. Air sliding down the mountain
into the valley is called the mountain breeze.

And of course there are always Local winds. Organized wind systems that occur in spatial dimensions
ranging from tens of meters to thousands of kilometers and last for times that can vary from seconds to
weeks. Although these winds never really last longer than that, making them the brief and impermanent
wind currents of the sky, they are most definitely the most common for us people to experience. These
winds are caused by regional differences in air temperature that depend on things like, 'what the
surface of the ground is made up of', and 'how much moisture is in the air', 'what the surrounding land
features are'.. et cetera et cetera.
Air in space
On earth we all know that those fluffy white puffs called clouds are condensed water vapor that float
around weightlessly in the Airy medium of Gas. But did you know, there are also clouds in space?
And these clouds in space are made of Air! Nebulas are super giant clouds of Air and space dust that
float around in the far beyonds of our galaxy, and neighboring galaxies.
Giant as in light years to get from one side of the cloud to the other.
Light travels at the speed of 186,000mps(miles per second) so the average nebula is at least
6 trillion miles long. The entire surface of the earth is only 24,000 miles around.
Thats a big cloud of gas! If you can figure.

These Nebula's are thought to be star formers of the Galaxy. Orion nebula most active star forming
nebula in the milky way galaxy as well as the closest Star forming of nebula. Star forming Nebulas, called by
Astronomers a "nursery", are Nebulas with the right mixture of gases within their total composition.
In Nebulas like these gas molecules sometimes begin to matriculate onto the gas around it. Tons of gas
from the space nebula begins to pile onto of each other, particle on particle, and with every weight
gained attract more gas. As molecules become super compact, they generate a rising amount of frictional
heat. & Eventually the giant ball of gas ignites and becomes a star, like our Sun with remaining
material believed to form planets and other planetary system objects.
Isnt that wild?! Gas is responsible for creating entire solar systems!!! Least to say that there is a very good chance that Gas created our very own solar system.
I think any way you put it, The Air that fills our atmosphere is just as tremendously amazing as it looks. When we would look up and see it there hovering over our heads, hundreds of thousands of feet upwards, i think we are almost naturally inclined to feel alittle more happy, alittle more at ease. Whatever position on earth we may find our own two earth dwelling feet on. The Sky remains an absolute Miracle, that displays so easily that real beauty of this world.
At least, I know thats what i see. As i kinda always have. But even alittle more so as i know more.
I hope by have having read this article, you might be able to see it that way too. And maybe be inspired to learn about other things of our world as well.
