Yours truly: Since 1588
In the year 1607, with the exact address unknown. Somewhere near Canterbury probably.
Sir Walter Raleigh may have created some parts, some pages of the worlds Bible.
That is assuming that I'm interpreting the poems in the correct way. I want to say that the poems he created mean exactly what I'm lead to believe they mean. I want to say that men, 500 years before the present date, in the age of Sail boats and Horses. In the age of candles and sundials. In the age of salt meat, and rough bread. There was Man, observing the world around him in such a manner that he could insightfully depict all the inner and outer meanings, and resulting meanings of meanings, of his world. Drawing them up to such a beautiful artistic heights, that it seems he has captured an empire of beauty and not missed a hair of its details.
Thats what i want to say. Looking back on these poems that were created in the 1500's, in Europe. A place leading the planet in progress of technology and civilization, and yet still very much primitive. To say that within this society of peoples, who had considerable more trouble living than we do today, there were some marks within the society that could fully open up the golden gates of comprehension and knowledge. They could tell you what's what about the very top dollar down to the bottom cents.
At least, thats what i want to say is what i am reading when i am reading these insights of poets long gone to the past. (It can be hard to tell with how subjective, figurative, and metaphorical the material is.)
Specifically the Poets ~Walter Raleigh, ~Edmund Spencer, and ~John Donne. Each living successively (in that order) in the periods of the later 1500’s and early 1600’s.
I’ve only read a few of their pieces, but i think i am falling fastly in love with them. If not only for the fact that i like their poetics and think that they had the brilliant ability to percieve and treat the world in a spiritually eternal manner. But then also because the prospect of such refined, pure, and valued thinking being produced in men so far back in the timeline! I mean geez. I know these peeps were smart and everything back in the days of electromagnetic theory, and physics, and Thomas Edison and Tesla. But to think that complex thought was going on all the way back in the days of wooden ships and cloth sails. It’s an inspirational quandary. To me it seems like a wellspring of hope in the history of the society I live in. Where all this civilized mess comes from.
Like you can look deep in the bedrock of the foundation of my world, the paved roads and cars, streetlights and generators. Refrigerators and cellphones. The people that use those things. My mother and father, sisters and brothers, cousins and friends. You can look deep into the bedrock of this man made synthesis of material, and find specks of gold! Still shining a deep shade of luminary brightness.
Thats the prospect at least.
Ive been reading poems from Walter Raleigh such as: “The Lie”, “The Passionate Mans pilgrimage”, and “Even such is time”. Created in the later half of the fifteenth century in possibly the 1570’s? 1580’s. His poem “The passionate mans pilgrimage” was exactly the sort of foundational gold that I am referring to.
I’ve been reading Edmund Spencer, works such as: “One day i wrote her name upon the strand”, “Prothalamion”, and the “Faerie Queene”. The Faierie Queene was a poetic epic created by Edmund Spencer, and has elements in it that suggest a romantic outlook on life, and wisdom.
And i have loved readings from John Donne/// “Better,my heart, three-personed god” “The good morrow” “At the round earths imagined corners” “Go catch a falling star” “The sun rising” “A Valediction: Forbidding morning”, “Hymn to father god almighty” ,“The canonization”. He especially probably more than either two of the others, has provoked belief to me of spiritual intelligence, activity, and awareness within the ancestors of modern civilization.
And i know i cant ever talk to him. He lived hundreds of years ago. But if i could. To him. Would i say. Your a genius! Your a miracle of god! and your thoughts seemed to match that effect. Through you, humanity is pronounced correct in all its glory. And so your effect is amplified by just that amount.
The idea that some stones, so small, could be placed in the great expanses of the stream of time, and the ripples would reach to my present day and age. Some 500 years later. It’s crazy! But exciting.
To think that mans mind is so full of brilliance, that it can outshine the limits of a lifespan, of centuries of lifespans even. Its great... wherever it might be found.
